Winners Mentality
We've all see someone win something, whether it be a singing competition or a World Cup Final or a Basketball Championship game. We've all see that one person that stands above the rest and that rises to the occasion. The person who seems to thrive under pressure instead of crumble. What makes a person like that?
Mentality.
I spent the last 5 weeks watching a 10 part documentary on Micheal Jordan and the Chicago Bulls. The Last Dance.
This documentary went through the trials and tribulations the team faced in the last year of the famous second "3peat" that Micheal Jordan, Scottie Pippen and co completed.
The show goes back and forth giving you the break down on what each player was facing in life and what they had to overcome to achieve the status they achieved. Every player had some form of obstacle they had to face. Everyone else would have allowed those pressures to impacted their performance on the court and negatively impact their game.
But Luckily for them, they had Micheal Jordan.
I watched this man go through so many ups and downs, so many challenges on the court and off the court and still find it in him to put those problems to the back of his mind when it was game time.
What I loved about this show was that Jordan was able to articulate
how he processed his thoughts to get through it all.
I don't think I've heard it be described in the way Jordan had described it.
You usually hear achievers say things like "I had to dig deep" or "I had to push myself" and while all these things are valid responses, Jordan spoke in a way that required you to understand that it's not just about sayings or how hard you work. It's about the mentality you bring.
The mentality you bring is what separates winning and losing.
There was a line Jordan said in the last episode which went "Why would I think I'm going to miss when I haven't even taken the shot yet?"
A lot of us live our lives in doubt.
That self-belief we have becomes very fragile after every loss we take in life. The problem we suffer with is that we don't come back with the mindset to avenge that loss.
We fear that lost because we fear that feeling of failure again.
We fear that feeling that we get in our bodies. We fear everything that comes with it. Disappointment, Sadness, Anger, hurt.
Instead of us using the loss to fuel us again we allow the loss to hinder us from really testing ourselves.
When we face challenges, things that take us out of our comfort zone, we don't trust ourselves enough to pull through.
The mind is such a powerful tool and something that we must be open to rewiring sometimes.
To win and succeed you have to understand that you need to take yourself mentaltiy to a place that cannot be influenced by negativity.
cannot be disheartened and cannot be intimidated.
To win takes an unwavering belief in your abilities.
A determination to be the best at what you do. A competitive edge like no one you've ever seen.
That competitive edge will make you out work, out train, out study and out earn anyone that comes in your way.
I once read a story about how Rio Ferdinand a former England international football player (Soccer) beat Cristiano Ronaldo in a game of table tennis. After beating him, Cristiano Ronaldo bought his own Ping pong table, practiced for two weeks, challenged Rio Ferdinand to a rematch and won.
Competition is what drives success. But with that you must have the mentality of self belief to win. You will come up against other people with a competitive mindset but what decides the outcome of the challenge is the belief you have in yourself. You can still lose even if you believe in yourself but you will never allow that loss to define you. Instead, you will use it as a target to over come and push yourself to do what is needed to come back and win.
You can apply the same mentality to whatever you are into. If you wanna create a business, don't let the doubt of others or lack of encouragement from others deter you from believing in yourself. You must whole heartedly believe in yourself first before anyone else can believe in you.
You must envision it before anyone else can see it.
You must take the steps to turn a dream into reality.
If you want it bad enough, there will be nothing and no one that can get in your way. You will go somewhere in your mind that a lot of people cannot go and that will take you from being someone who runs from their fears of losing to seeing nothing else but winning.
