Align Your Energy
I write this on the same day a young 20-year star who was taking the Hip Hop scene by storm was fatally shot and killed in a home invasion in the Hollywood Hills, California. Pop Smoke a talented young artist from Brooklyn NY passed away on the 19th of February. I wanna speak about energy. The energy that you give out. I mention this artist because he was an artist I was vibing with because of the energy he gave off in his music and the sound that he created in NY. We all know Hip hop is a genre of music that comes across very negative. It has created the reputation of promoting violence, drugs and disrespect towards women. Now with all those components being incorporated in the music, it is still the music I find myself having the most appreciation for, I grew up listening to New York Hip Hop, and I would be one of the front runners in wanting a New York artist to control the sound of Hip Hop again. I felt like that could be Pop Smoke.
His sound isn't the typical NY Sound. It is a London sound. We have had this sound for years now and adapted it from Chicago and made it our own. Pop smoke took that sound and smashed it out the stratosphere with his breakout song "Welcome to the party". When you listen to the song you can feel the energy he's giving out why it created such a buzz. It's raw gritty unapologetic but also hype and fun as hell. Long gone are the days when NY's boom bap sound would flood the clubs. It's been a long time since NY music dominated clubs. Southern rap has held the post for over a decade and now it seemed like NY was finally about to reclaim their crown.
There have been other promising NY rappers but none of the young boys captures that classic NYC aura in this modern era. Then came Pop Smoke. His voice was NY. Grimey MTA trains and cigarette smoke, Project Staircases and Razor blades under the tongue. Pop Smoke was the old NY in a new generation. What he also brought with that was the NY attitude. Living in NY for that last 6 years I've noticed one thing.
New Yorkers are resilient in every sense of the word. Through all the challenges and circumstances they endure, New Yorkers overcome it all. They keep going and they have a never give up attitude.
What you put out into this world will come back to you in multiple forms.
when you bring an attitude that makes you seem like you hate the world. The world will hate you. The universe will create scenarios that keep you in that state of mind and that environment you've attracted to yourself. Words cast spells and those words can impact you. Hip Hop music attracts a negative environment because the music expresses negative circumstances that are trying to be overcome. When you overcome those circumstances you transition from being part of negative circumstances to viewing them from afar and speaking down on them in a way that can attract negative reactions from people who still live in negative circumstances.
Understand that power your energy can have and how it can impact the environment around you. Understand that it can affect the people around you. It can affect people who don't know you but want to drain the energy you're giving off because they don't want to see someone like you in a better position than them. Make sure your aware of the environment your creating for your yourself and make sure you are prepared to face the challenges that arise because if your not you will find yourself in a situation you didn't want to be in all because you gave off an energy that you couldn't contain.
