The Old You.
Writing has always been an outlet for me. Whether that be creating lyrics to a song or writing an article, I've always seen expressing yourself in some way as therapeutic.
We have got to a point in life where what we do or say or how we express ourselves is now criticized at every point. If we don't express ourselves, we limit encountering experiences that we can learn and develop from. If you have a view on life, that could be deemed inappropriate. Without expressing it, you will continue to live with this false truth or live with a point of view that can never be challenged because you have blocked yourself from gaining a better understanding.
We have seen many celebrities be criticized for what they may have written on Twitter before they gained celebrity status or how they view certain things early in their career. As they have put it out into the world, they faced experiences based on those same statements they had made early on in their lives, and that causes them to learn and get real clarity and grow as individuals. What then starts to happen is that people who remember them in a specific way remind them of their naivety or even ignorance and condemn the celebrity for it always. Even if that person takes responsibility for their actions and accountability, there will always be groups of people who remind them that at one point in their lives, they were "flawed".
We are all flawed. That is the Natural trait of a human being. Still, we have entered into this era of extreme judgement and placing people into boxes and keeping them there. We have truly started to make people feel like they need to keep their opinions to themselves or stop expressing themselves in moments when it is truly needed. There are teachable moments at every passing minute in life. The most ignorant person can learn something, whether they want to or not. That's how expression works. Whether good or bad, you are taught that your views are right or wrong. It's then up to you to either learn from it or continue to live a false narrative.
Expression is all about growth. You don't have the same views as an adult that you have as a teenager. You continue to learn and evolve. When you are being questioned why you are changing, you have to wonder why that person wouldn't want you to get better. To learn. Why are you being manipulated to stay stagnant or ridiculed for looking at something from another perspective? Life is a challenge, and you always have to adapt to survive and overcome the circumstances and obstacles you face.
Although not a very long article, I think it's pretty much to the point. Live, Love and Laugh but don't let one moment in your life define or condemn you and stop you from progressing.
